When planning your photoshoot, one of the biggest questions I get is, “What should we wear?” — and honestly, it can make all the difference in how your photos turn out. The right outfit not only complements the scenery, but it also helps your photos feel timeless, natural, and true to you. So here are a few of my favorite tips when picking what to wear for your Wild River Roots session 🌿
1. Keep It Simple & Timeless
Skip the loud patterns and logos — they tend to distract from the emotion and connection in your photos. Neutral tones, soft earthy colors, and flowing textures always photograph beautifully, especially here in Tennessee’s natural light. Think sage, cream, rust, tan, or muted blues — they’ll harmonize perfectly with the landscapes we love shooting in.
2. Dress for Movement
Your session should feel easy and comfortable, not stiff. Choose outfits that let you move, laugh, and snuggle in naturally — long dresses that flow, shirts you can roll the sleeves on, and fabrics that breathe. The more comfortable you feel, the more genuine your photos will be.
3. Coordinate, Don’t Match
For families or couples, aim for tones that complement each other instead of identical outfits. Layering helps add depth and visual interest — think cozy sweaters, linen shirts, or a cardigan tossed over a dress.
4. Add a Touch of Texture
Textures like linen, lace, denim, or knit fabrics add a subtle richness that brings your photos to life. When the wind catches your dress or sunlight hits your sleeve, that texture makes the moment feel alive and tangible.
5. Reflect You
At the end of the day, your session is about your story. Wear something that feels like you — that makes you feel confident, beautiful, and grounded.
If you’re ever unsure, I’m happy to help you put together outfits that fit both your personal style and the mood of your shoot. I want you to look back at your gallery and feel you — authentic, effortless, and connected to the moment.
